How to create a web page with a site creator
Let's start with the simplest option : use a site creator . In other words, it is an "all-inclusive" package because the same company provides the template (template and design), editor, web space, domain, e-mail boxes and technical support. The site creator takes care of the most complicated tasks.

This does not mean that an instrument of this type is suitable only for beginners. It simply depends on the project, so why complicate your life when there are simpler ways to get the same result?

Virtually all website creators offer a free basic package that allows you to try them out for good before deciding whether it's worth paying for a subscription.

Prices start at around € 8 a month and include everything you need. If you do not need a personalized email box it will be even cheaper.

To better understand how it works exactly, we recommend taking a look at our Wix video review.

Pro :

Very easy to use.
You do not need any additional software.
It is better to start without technical knowledge.
The site creator is concerned with updates and other security issues.
Cons :

It is not always possible to add special features (depending on the site creator).
We lose flexibility because everything depends on the provider.
No están diseñados para proyectos muy complejos que necesiten bases de datos (p.ej. un directorio).
The creators of the most popular sites are Wix , Jimdo and Weebly . In our comparator you will find other site creators .

The Wix web creator can try for free and for as long as you want.

How to create a website with a content manager
Content Management Systems (CMS) have a higher degree of complexity. Although they essentially function as a site creator, CMSs are a lot more difficult to use .

With a site creator, not only can you add simple content such as text and images, but you can design the web page entirely. In this case, a classic content manager would be much more limited and its appearance depends mainly on the predefined templates (templates) available .

The best known is WordPress . You install a ready-made model and use the customization options to change its appearance. But if the result does not convince you, you will have to (you or a programmer) change the CSS or HTML code.

The hosting, domain, e-mail address, installation and support level you choose will depend on the amount of money you want to spend and on your technical knowledge. You decide to do it yourself, it will be quite cheap .

A big advantage, especially in the case of WordPress, is that it has thousands of plugins that allow you to add to your web page all the features you want. A typical example is WooCommerce, a plugin for adding a complete online store.

The default WordPress setting allows it to be used in one language only, but there are plugins such as WPML that make it possible to translate the site. Another of our favorites is the Yoast SEO plugin , which allows you to change the options for search engines (eg Google).

Pro :

You are free to choose the hosting provider.
It's great for creating websites in various languages.
Thanks to its technical flexibility you can access the source code (provided that you know what you do).
The features can be expanded with the use of plugins.
Cons :

It does not include personal technical support.
Creative freedom depends on the template.
You may have to face additional charges associated with plugins.
Small cosmetic adjustments may require the intervention of a programmer.
Other examples of content managers are Joomla! and Drupal, but they're a lot more complicated to use than WordPress, so we will not analyze them. You will find more information on WordPress in our special section dedicated to WordPress .

How to schedule a website yourself (or commission it)
There are not many secrets, the editor opens and you start programming. Those who need total freedom must make the site alone. It is clear that for this type of work it takes patience and that a beginner may seem bigger than him or a little frustrating.

A good starting point are platforms like Codecademy, Udemy or W3Schools, which offer step-by-step tutorials for beginners, but the journey to a finished and working website will be wide .

In this case it is not possible to estimate the total costs, because they will depend on the project itself. Above all, it will be much more expensive if you decide to commission it to a programmer: paying € 8.50 a month for a website creator will always be less than what a web designer or agency earns for one hour of work.

The most used editors are NetBeans, Aptana Studio and Brackets. All allow you to work with at least HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP, and can be downloaded for free.
